Preface

The people, who since the beginning of recorded history, inhabited the grasslands of Central Asia and its border regions regularly formed largescale empires which, in many ways, affected the sedentary states, the seats of recorded culture and civilization. On several occasions in its long history, Korea was affected by the developments on the Central Asian steppe. Moreover, as the Korean language belongs to the same linguistic family as the languages of the people of Central Asia, principally Turkish and Mongolian, the affinitiy between the two regions, sedentary Korea and nomadic Central Asia, extends beyond historical contacts...
